Extend the lifespan of your products

Add suggestions for your consumers what to do with the garment at the end of its life

As a brand or retailer, you can improve your customer experience by providing information about the next steps for your products. To extend the lifespan of your product, offer options for consumers to take when they no longer wear the garment. These options can include reuse, repair, resale, recycling, and more.

In this article, you can find examples of the steps offered and a template of how to fill in the fields.

To add next steps

  1. Go to the My Account page and Company Details tab.

  2. Scroll down to the Brands section and click on the Add next step details button. If you have several brands, you can add customised next step details for each brand.
    ​Note: The data for the next step details must be provided separately for each brand.

  3. Provide information about the next steps, including the call to action and how consumers can complete them. To add multiple steps, click on Add next step.

  4. Click Confirm when you're done.

  5. Make sure to Save the changes done in My account page.

    You can use the example text for creating the next steps as below:

    Next step subtitle: Take care

    Next step introduction text: Is your item ready for the next step? Find the best option to extend the lifespan of your item.

    Care

    Provide general care guidelines for your client and link to care guide on your website to make sure the garment lasts longer.

    Next step description: For your garment to last longer, wash it less and instead let it breathe outside before wearing again. When it is time to wash, sort your laundry by colour and wash on a lower temperature to keep that colour fresh. Make sure to use the right amount of suitable detergent and let your favourite garments air dry. For tailored care instructions, always check the care label attached.

    Repair

    For easy consumer action required repairs, you can either link your consumers to their nearest tailor or add ByeWaste details to connect your consumers to repair service through easy to use app and convenient pick-up times. Read more about ByeWaste here.

    If you are considering to use an external partner to help you with providing repair services for your clients, consider Mended or United repair center to collaborate with.

    Next step description: Does your favourite item miss a button? Give it a second life by repairing it yourself, bring it to the local repair shop or arrange a repair with home pick-up using ByeWaste app.

    Reuse

    Encourage your consumers to extend the lifespan of their items by donating them to someone or make something new out of them.

    Next step description: No longer wearing your beloved item but it is still looking great? Extend the longevity of your item by making someone else happy with it. Or get creative and make something new out of it!

    Resell

    As a resell option, you could partnership with Faume who will take care of the whole resell process from collecting the products from your consumers, to taking pictures of the garments and selling them. Get to know more about Faume here.

    You can also advise your consumers to resell their garments through the second-hand platforms like Vinted.

    Next step description: Give your beloved items a new life and connect them to a new owner. This way you are extending the value of the item and making someone else happy with your previously worn item.

    Recycle

    Encourage your consumers to use ByeWaste app where garments are collected for recycling from their home. Consumers can do it in bulk together with all their disposable garments or if you want to go one extra step, contact Tomasso from ByeWaste to add your brand to the app specifically.

    Or consider placing Drop & Loop box in your store where consumers could bring their old garments to give them a second life.

Once you've added the next step details, you can easily share them with your customers by having them scan the product's QR code or view the product journey on your website. Here's how you can view the details consumers can see:

  1. Preview the next steps by going to the DPP page.

  2. Click on the eye icon to preview the information visible.

  3. Scroll down to find the next step section at the bottom.

  4. Click the v button to view the details.

Edit the next step details

If you want to edit the next step details, click on pen icon. To delete the steps, click on the bin icon. Always save the changes made.
